ACLC BC BRANCH AWARD ROY RIGBY JONES
OUTSTANDING ARMY CADET CORPS PACIFIC REGION
The Army Cadet League of Canada (ACLC), British Columbia (BC) Branch, is proud to announce that the
prestigious 2024 Roy Rigby Jones Award for Outstanding Army Cadet Corps in British Columbia has been
awarded to the 2556 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (RCACC) in Kitimat, British Columbia. This award,
created in memory of Major Roy John Rigby-Jones, CD, holds great significance in our Army Cadet
community.
This award was created in memory of Major Roy John Rigby-Jones, CD. Roy was born in Vancouver, BC in 1921.
In 1936, Roy joined the Irish Fusiliers of Canada Army Cadets and later the Militia as a Signaller. During WWII,
Roy was commissioned from the ranks and served in the British West Indies, United Kingdom, and Northwest
Europe, holding positions that included Signals Officer, PT and Unarmed Combat instructor, Platoon and
Company Commander. After the War, Roy returned to Vancouver. Upon retirement in 1986, Roy became
involved in the Army Cadet League of Canada, British Columbia Branch. He served as the Executive Director for
38 years. Roy was passionate about the Army Cadet Program and created policy and direction for the Support
Committee that are still used today. Roy passed away at the age of 88 in 2009 in Vancouver.
Each year, the ACLC BC Branch recognizes the outstanding Army Cadet Corps that demonstrates support for
the Army Cadet Program. The BC Branch congratulates the 2556 RCACC for their unwavering dedication to the
Program.
Ms. Christine Alexander, President of the ACLC BC Branch, will present the trophy to the Corps in the new
year.
