ACLC BC Branch Major Charles Whisker Award
Top Volunteer Award 2020
This award was created in memory of Major Charles Whisker, CD. Charles was an active participant in the volunteer community, being a member of the 257 Royal Canadian Legion, Lodge 110 of the Masons, the Canadian Frontiersmen, and the St. John Ambulance. Charles proudly served as the Commanding Officer of the 2422 RCACC and later as the Area Cadet Liaison Officer for Vancouver Island. Major Whisker was such an active participant of the volunteer community and this award is for the dedication of a volunteer he proudly stood for.
After carefully reviewing the numerous applications received, the ACLC BC Branch Honours and Award Committee are pleased to announce that Mr. Michael Johnson, the ACLC BC Branch Treasurer, is the recipient of the 2020 Major Charles Whisker Top Volunteer Award.
Michael was instrumental in creating the new financial reporting model for the ACLC BC Branch. This reporting model provided all Army Corps within BC a consolidated financial reporting tool, which streamlined the ability to submit financial reports to the Branch and the ACLC. This past year Michael transitioned the Branch from traditional banking to Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). He realized the benefit and provided a seamless transition. Michael also provides the Branch Support Committees with advice, zoom video calls, and assistance with annual audits and gaming grant applications. Michael uses a financial language, that is easy to understand which ultimately calms and provides his peers with confidence and success. Michael is also a member of the National Board representing BC since 2018. He is an active member of the National Finance and Audit Committee. Michael created a number of policy creations and amendments and assisted in the development of the National Financial Handbook. Michaels skills, knowledge, willingness to help others and dedication to the Army Cadet Program makes him the winner of the Charles Whisker Award Top Volunteer for 2020.
The ALCC Branch would like to congratulate Mr. Michael Johnson for his dedication to the Army Cadet Program.
