ACLC BC Branch Major Charles Whisker
Outstanding Volunteer
This award was established in memory of Major Charles Whisker, CD, who was actively involved in the volunteer community. He was a member of the 257 Royal Canadian Legion, Lodge 110 of the Masons, the Canadian Frontiersmen, and St. John’s Ambulance. Major Whisker strongly committed to the Army Cadet Program, proudly serving as the Commanding Officer of the 2422 RCACC and later as the Area Cadet Liaison Officer for Vancouver Island, achieving the rank of Major over 17 years of service. This award recognizes Major Whisker’s dedication to volunteerism. He passed away in 2006.
Eligibility:
The award is open to anyone who volunteers with the Army Cadet Program. Nominees must have a minimum of five years of volunteer experience with the program. This award is not limited to Support Committee Executives or Regular/Reserve Force volunteers; it is open to all those involved with the ACLC BC Branch. Members of the Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC) are not eligible for this award. Volunteers should exhibit qualities that make them role models for other members and cadets. A volunteer may receive this award multiple times.
How to Nominate:
Nominations for this award can come from any of the following sources:
– Support Committee members and Army Cadet League members in good standing
– Corps Commanding Officers
– Other Department of National Defense (DND) staff members of the Cadet Corps
Nominations must be submitted by January 31, 2025, via email as an official letter to the Executive Director, Army Cadet League of Canada, British Columbia.
The nomination letter should provide specific details in support of the nominee, addressing criteria including but not limited to:
– Initiative
– Teamwork
– Responsibility
– Leadership and role modeling
– Development and direction of youth
– Planning and communication
– Being energetic, flexible, reliable, committed, and selfless
